Lou Guarracina
PRESIDENT AND COFOUNDER
Lou has the overall responsibility for all of HighRes' operations, research, and business strategies, with the objective of making HighRes the most innovative life sciences automation provider. Lou has 15 years experience creating groundbreaking automation in the pharmaceutical industry. He has held management positions in automation, informatics, high-throughput screening and sample management at OSI Pharmaceuticals, Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University and Novartis.
Lou co-founded HighRes Biosolutions in 2004 with the aim of creating cutting-edge robotic systems, devices and consumables for life sciences research and drug discovery. He holds patents in the areas of modular automation and consumables. Lou holds both a BS and MS in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College.
Michael Nichols
VICE PRESIDENT OF MARKETING AND COFOUNDER
Responsible for HighRes’ global marketing efforts, Michael is a veteran of both fast-growing startups and large-cap global companies. Michael has 15 years experience developing instruments, software, and robotics automation in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries at such companies as LifeCell, Genometrix, Novartis, and Infinity Pharmaceuticals.
Michael co-founded HighRes Biosolutions in 2004 with the aim of creating cutting-edge robotic systems, devices and consumables for life sciences research and drug discovery. He holds patents in the areas of modular automation and consumables. Michael earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Economics from The University of Texas at Austin.
Ira Hoffman
MANAGING DIRECTOR
Ira leads project management, sales and support at HighRes. Ira personally ensures every customer and every project receives a high level of attention and support.
Prior to joining HighRes, Ira was Director of Research and Development at Freedom Sciences, where he developed innovative robotic hardware for people with limited mobility. Before that he was at Merck for six years, where he led many successful projects for various screening groups at Merck, including the integration of systems capable of screening 1 million samples in less than a week, the development of an enterprise data warehouse for capturing and reporting screening results, the development of analytical approaches for combining screening results with chemical structure, and the implementation of real-time, automated quality control monitoring of screening processes. Ira graduated with a BS in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Vermont, and an MS in Computer Science from Villanova University.
Vladimir Zhirnov
VICE PRESIDENT OF SOFTWARE
With HighRes since its founding, Vlad leads the development and support of the company’s industry-leading software products.
Prior to his position with HighRes, Vladimir was at Enabling Technologies where he led software development and commissioning of robotic systems for research. Vladimir has 20 years experience leading various automation and software efforts within the pharmaceutical industry. He holds a degree in Nuclear Engineering from Obninsk Institute of Atomic Energy in Russia.
Andy Zaayenga
VICE PRESIDENT OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Andy leads the strategic business development team for HighRes Biosolutions' national and international markets. He has spent 30 years as an industry leader in laboratory automation and medical devices focused in the life sciences, particularly drug discovery and biospecimen management. Among his significant previous positions, Andy served as Director for Tecan where he led the REMP North Americas group. He was also Founder and CEO of TekCel, a pioneer in life sciences sample management automation.
Andy is active in the professional community dedicated to the advancement of laboratory science and technology. He is a board director for the Laboratory Robotics Interest Group (LRIG), Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS), and International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER). He is a past board director for the Society for Biomolecular Sciences (SBS) and the Association for Laboratory Automation (ALA).
Chris Pacheco
DIRECTOR OF LIFE SCIENCES
Dr. Pacheco is actively involved in all life science and molecular diagnostics projects, enabling HighRes' engineers and software teams to better understand the needs of customers.
Chris obtained his PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Michigan and did his postdoctoral training in lab of Susan Lindquist at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research at MIT. Chris has a significant number of highly-cited, peer-reviewed publications in Parkinson’s disease and other biomedical fields, as well as contributing to multiple patents for gene therapy applications.
Matt Kiley
VICE PRESIDENT OF FINANCE
Matt Kiley joined HighRes in 2010 as Director of Finance. Matt has 20 years of accounting and financial management experience serving in senior roles in high-technology companies ranging from development stage to $2 billion in annual revenue.
Prior to joining HighRes, Matt was Director of Finance at Kalido Inc., a venture capital-backed provider of data governance software with operations in Burlington, MA, London, England and Bangalore, India. Matt also held positions at Andrew Corporation, Arbortext Inc and PictureTel Corporation. Matt holds a BS in Finance from Providence College in Providence, RI.
